Alarm Guide & Reliability

How ASR Clock schedules alarms

ASR Clock is designed to use Android alarm-grade scheduling so alerts can fire even when the app is not open on screen.

For reliable alarms, your phone may ask you to allow notifications, exact alarms, and full-screen or alarm presentation behaviour. Some manufacturers also restrict background activity for battery saving.

For the most reliable alarm operation, keep required ASR Clock permissions enabled and avoid placing ASR Clock under aggressive battery or background restrictions.

Do not disable all device security or battery controls globally. Only allow what ASR Clock needs for alarms and notifications.

When an alarm rings

When ASR Clock fires, it enters one active ringing state with a full alarm screen: large time, label, STOP, and SNOOZE. A notification may also appear as Android infrastructure — it is not the primary control.

  • STOP permanently ends the current ringing occurrence (audio, vibration, notification, and ringing screen). Recurring alarms stay scheduled for their next normal time.
  • SNOOZE silences now and schedules exactly one snooze using your configured duration.
  • Volume Up or Volume Down on the ringing screen snoozes once (same as on-screen SNOOZE). Holding the key does not schedule multiple snoozes.
  • Turning off or deleting the alarm that is currently ringing also stops playback immediately.
  • Opening ASR Clock while an alarm is ringing opens the ringing controls.

Permissions that matter

  • Notifications — so alarm alerts can appear.
  • Exact alarms — so alarms can fire at the chosen time on modern Android.
  • Full-screen / alarm presentation — so a ringing alarm can appear over the lock screen when the system allows it. On Android 14+ you may need to allow full-screen intents for ASR Clock in system settings. ASR Clock will not auto-open that screen; open it from Alarm Guide or system settings if alarms only show as a small notification.
  • Battery / background exceptions — on some phones, including HONOR / MagicOS, unrestricted or standard background behaviour helps prevent delayed alarms.

Manufacturer differences

Android versions and phone manufacturers manage background apps differently. If alarms are delayed, missed, or only appear as a small notification, review notification settings, exact-alarm permission, full-screen intent permission, and battery optimisation options for ASR Clock on your device.

Alarm sound and Wake to Radio

ASR Clock ships with bundled alarm tones (Classic, Classic Alarm Clock, Pulse, Rise, Chime, Strong Wake) so every device has a consistent offline wake sound. You can also choose a Custom sound from an audio file already on your phone, or Wake to Radio from a saved favourite station.

Wake to Radio requires internet access and a reachable station stream. If the stream cannot start within about 8 seconds, ASR Clock falls back to the Classic built-in alarm. If a Custom file is deleted, moved, or no longer accessible, ASR Clock also falls back to Classic — never a silent alarm.

Travel and timezone changes

Alarm times are stored as local clock times on your device (for example 07:00). ASR Clock calculates the next occurrence using the device’s current local date and time.

When the system time or timezone changes, ASR Clock attempts to keep schedules active. Recurring alarms are intended to follow the same local wall-clock time after travel. For the most dependable result after a timezone change, open ASR Clock once so schedules can refresh against the current local time.

Local Prayer Times are separate

The Local Prayer Times section on Home is display-only. It does not create Adhan alerts, prayer alarms or prayer notifications. Ordinary alarms you create in Alarms remain the only scheduled wake alerts.

Practical tips

  • Confirm the alarm switch is enabled after saving.
  • Keep the phone powered or charged overnight when an important alarm is set.
  • Silent modes, Do Not Disturb and volume policies can affect what you hear, depending on Android settings.
  • If you recently changed timezone, open the app to refresh schedules.
  • Force-stopping the app or revoking required alarm permissions can prevent reliable delivery until permissions and schedules are restored.

Internet radio directory

ASR Clock discovers stations using the Radio Browser open directory (radio-browser.info). Station directory requests are made to Radio Browser API hosts configured in the app.

Station directory by radio-browser.info

When a station plays, your device connects to that broadcaster’s stream server. Eman Hub does not operate those streams.

Prayer and Qibla calculation

Local Prayer Times and Qibla bearing use the open-source adhan library (package adhan 2.0.0+1) for on-device astronomical calculation. Timezone conversion uses bundled IANA timezone data via the timezone / flutter_timezone packages. Device location access uses geolocator. The live compass heading uses flutter_compass and the phone’s sensors.

adhan — MIT Licence notice

The following copyright and permission notice is included for the adhan package as required by its MIT Licence:

City catalogue

Manual city selection and nearby GPS labels use a curated major-city catalogue bundled in the app (coordinates and IANA timezone ids). It is not downloaded from a live map or geocoding service at runtime.

Qibla artwork

The Kaaba illustration used on the Qibla screen is a bundled ASR Clock / Eman Hub project asset shipped with the app.

Fonts

ASR Clock uses Marcellus (clock display), Cinzel (brand wordmark), and DM Sans (operational UI) bundled under the SIL Open Font License. Font files are included in the app package and are not downloaded at runtime.

Bundled alarm sounds

Built-in alarm tones (Classic, Classic Alarm Clock, Pulse, Rise, Chime, Strong Wake) are original computer-generated audio created for ASR Clock / Eman Hub. They are project assets redistributed with the app. No third-party commercial ringtones or copyrighted music recordings are bundled. See assets/sounds/LICENSES.txt in the project source for the licence note.

Open-source components

ASR Clock is built with Flutter and community packages such as audio playback, notifications, timezone data, shared preferences, location, compass helpers and permission helpers. Those packages remain subject to their own licences. The adhan MIT notice is reproduced above.
